And as my sister quietly whispered, “I love you, Jake”, I couldn’t help but imagine that instead, she had whispered, “I love you, Matthew.”
The two of them held each other for a few more moments. The road went down to one lane on a temporary road, which was rough and bumpy. I threw off my sheets and stood out of bed. Alex winked at me and said, “good call Mathew.”
The sun went down leaving a pink glow behind us as we set off for the journey home. I had never realized how much I truly cared for my sister, until my parents and I unloaded her into her college dorm room and waved goodbye as she began her freshman year. And as if on cue, we felt the car stop to shake, as we exited the construction zone, and glided smoothly back towards home for what was sure to be an eventful summer.
