“I’m not. She starts this weekend.”
Astrid had just taken a drink of champagne and had to press her fingers to her lips to keep it from escaping as she snorted. She swallowed her bite of salad, removed her finger, and said, “I like you. “Why do you say that?”
“So you can take some time to have some fun… sow your wild oats.”
I eyed her. “I guess.”
“I think you should tell Danni about this.”
Having expected some sort of platitude or other form of sympathy, her words took me by complete surprise. Her eyes studied the office’s carpet for the next few moments while I simply watched, trying to find the magic words that would change her mind. “No,” I shook my head. Not in my job de***********ion. “She’s not a consolation prize, Erin.”
Erin shrugged.
